Wow, its been a while since I’ve posted a crochet baby blanket pattern! Baby blankets are among my favourite patterns to design (and I know you guys love them too!), so I promise to post a few more in the coming months. Since my last pattern, the Aztec Mosaic Crochet Blanket Wrap, was more of an intermediate pattern, I decided to go way simpler with the design of this baby blanket. I chose a simple chevron stitch that is made entirely with single crochet to make it beginner friendly.
I know that many of my followers are visual learners, so I’ve created a quick video tutorial of the single crochet chevron stitch, which is posted below on this page (as well as on the Leelee Knits YouTube Channel) to help guide you along. The video also includes a demo of how to change colours at the end of a row, and then crochet over the yarn tails to avoid weaving in loose ends.
The single crochet chevron stitch is a great one for baby blankets because it creates a thick, squishy fabric that is perfect for snuggles! After making this blanket, I was wishing for a baby to wrap up and cuddle… but alas, that time in my life had passed. I should also mention that you can alter the width of the blanket in case you’d like to make it bigger for a toddler or child, or smaller for baby’s stroller. I’ve included the math for the foundation chain length in the pattern to make it easy for you.
My Yarn Choice:
I really wanted to make this blanket economical for you guys, so I chose my go-to cost friendly, acrylic yarn: Knit Picks Brava Worsted. Knit Picks just launched a new colour series for their Brava Worsted line called Speckle. As you may have guessed, I couldn’t wait to try it out!
For this pattern, I hoped to create something summery and cheerful. I chose to work with yellow/orange/peachy tones, and was so excited to see that the speckle line included a colour called “Just Peachy”! With this colour scheme in mind, I came up with a colour pattern using White, Just Peachy, and their bright yellow Canary colour. The best part about this colour scheme is that it works for either gender. I can totally see this blanket looking super cute in a baby boy or girl’s nursery, draped over the crib.

Video Tutorial:
In the following video, I demonstrate how to crochet the single crochet chevron stitch that is used the Leelee Knits Peaches and Cream Baby Blanket. The video also includes a demo of how to change colours at the end of a row, and then crochet over the yarn tails to avoid weaving in loose ends.
Pattern:
With Colour A, chain 134 (or multiple of 11 + 2 if you’d like to make your blanket bigger or smaller).
Row 1: 2 SC in 2nd ch from hook, SC in the next 4 ch, skip 2 ch, SC in next 4 ch; *3 SC in next ch, sc in next 4 ch, skip 2 ch, sc in next 4 ch; repeat from * to last ch. 2SC in last ch; CH1, turn.
Row 2: 2 SC in first sc, SC in next 4 sc, skip next 2 sc, SC in next 4 sc; *3 SC in next sc, SC in next 4 sc, skip 2 sc, SC in next 4 sc; repeat from * to last sc. 2 SC in last sc; CH1, turn.
Repeat Row 2, two more times with Colour A. Continue repeating Row 2, following the colour sequence below:
2 Rows Colour B
2 Rows Colour A
2 Rows Colour C
2 Rows Colour A
When your work measures 37” long (or you run out of Colour C), complete the blanket by working 2 more rows of Colour B, followed by 4 more rows of Colour A.
Finishing:
Fasten off and weave in any loose ends.
Wet or steam block the blanket to make it lay flat (you can use an iron set to the Acrylic setting and very gently run it over the blanket while pulling it taut and releasing some steam). Be careful not to use too much heat with acrylic yarn, because it will melt the fibres.
