Triangle Scarf Knitting Pattern

Knit An Easy Triangle Scarf!
If you’ve been looking for a relaxing project to ease into the cooler months, you will love this triangle scarf knitting pattern. Triangle scarves are everywhere right now because they’re cozy, easy to style, and look beautiful with just about anything. I wanted to create a version that’s simple enough for confident beginners, but still interesting and satisfying to knit from start to finish.
The Essential Triangle Scarf Knitting Pattern
I named this scarf pattern The Essential Triangle Scarf because once you make one, you won’t want to leave the house without it (especially if you are cold intolerant like me!) The pattern is simple and worked flat from tip to tip, beginning with just five stitches. You’ll increase along one edge, and then decrease back down on the second half to mirror the triangle. The broken rib texture adds a classic, wearable look, and is so easy to knit (you just alternate rows of knitting each stitch with k1, p1 ribbing). You’ll also learn how to slip the last stitch of every row to give the ends a clean, polished finish.

This is one of those projects you’ll be addicted to knitting since you’ll see your work grow rapidly from just a few stitches to the full width (I’m speaking from experience because I had a hard time putting it down too!). Plus it’s also a great gift knit if you’re making handmade pieces for the holidays.
I’ve included everything you need below – materials, notes, and the full written pattern. So you can get your yarn ready and jump right in.
If you prefer to follow along visually, I’ve added a step-by-step video tutorial below with the pattern and on the Leelee Knits YouTube Channel (click on the following link to watch it on YouTube or scroll down to watch on this page): How to Knit a Triangle Scarf.
I hope you enjoy knitting this scarf as much as I did!

Pattern Notes
This scarf is worked flat from tip to tip, beginning with just 5 stitches. You’ll increase along one edge to shape the first half of the triangle, then decrease along that same edge to mirror the shaping on the second half. Once the stitch count reaches 99, the shaping reverses to decrease back down to 5 stitches, completing the triangular shape.
The broken rib texture is created by alternating knit rows with rows of k1, p1 ribbing, while slipping the last stitch purlwise with the yarn held at the front on every row to form a smooth edge.
