Festival Tank Top – Free Crochet Pattern
It’s been ages since I last shared a free tank top crochet pattern on my website. A couple of summers back, I shared my first easy crochet tank top pattern, and it was a huge hit…. so I thought it was about time to create a new one for you!
This top, which I’ve named the Festival tank top is both cute, and easy to make. I designed it to have a simple one row repeat with minimal shaping to keep it simple. And to make things even easier, I have worked very hard to create a video tutorial. Click the link below to watch the tutorial, or scroll down -I’ve shared it on this page too with the pattern!

Choosing the Right Yarn
I designed this pattern using Paintbox Yarn Simply DK because I wanted to work with an affordable, low-maintenance yarn. Simply DK is one of my favorite acrylic yarns, not only for its budget-friendly price but also for its extensive selection of colors. I can envision this top in every shade of the rainbow, and with this yarn line, you’ll have that choice!

Front and Back Panels (make two)
The front and back panels are identical and worked from the bottom up in rows. Once both panels are complete, they are seamed together at the sides underneath the arm holes (See Assembly section on next page).
Chain 63(69,75,81,93,100).
Row 1: SC in second ch from hook, skip next ch; *(SC, CH2, SC) in next ch, skip next 2ch; repeat from * to last 3ch; (SC, CH2, SC) in next ch, skip next ch, SC in last ch, turn.
Row 2: CH1, SC in first sc; *(SC, CH2, SC) in next ch2sp; repeat from * to end of row, ending with SC in last sc, turn.
Repeat row 2 until work measures 7(7.5,7.5,8,9,9)”.
Complete rows 1-6 below 3(3,3,4,4,4) times to shape arm holes.
Rows 1-2: CH1, Skip first sc, SC in first ch2sp; *(SC, CH2, SC) in next ch2sp; repeat from * to end of row, ending with SC in last sc, turn.
Rows 3-6: CH1, SC in first sc; *(SC, CH2, SC) in next ch2sp; repeat from * to end of row, ending with SC in last sc, turn.
Finish panel with the following final row:
Final row: CH1, SC in first sc; *2SC in next ch2sp; repeat from * to end of row, ending with SC in last sc. Fasten off.
Assembly
Seam Panels Together:
Lay the two panels on top of each other, and seam at the sides using a whip stitch. The crochet stitch used for this top is reversible, so don’t worry about which sides are facing.
Add Straps:
Complete the steps below for each strap:
Step 1: Attach yarn with a slip stitch at the top corner of one panel.
Step 2: Chain 28, or 10 inches stretched (every body is different; it’s a good idea to try the top on at this point to see if you need to add more or less length to the strap before continuing).
Step 3: Attach the chain to top corner of facing panel with slip stitch.
Step 4: SC around arm hole (including into chains of strap) and join to first sc with slip stitch.
Step 5: SC again around arm hole and join to first sc with slip stitch.
Step 6: Fasten off.
Add Bottom Edging:
Attach yarn with a slip stitch at the bottom of one of the side seams.
Round 1: CH1, SC in the same stitch (this is the first SC of the round); SC around the bottom edge by working 1SC into each ch2sp and each (sc,ch2,sc) cluster; join to first sc of the round with slip stitch.
Note: The total number of stitches around = two thirds the foundation
chain times two (if you’re off by a couple of stitches don’t worry).
Example: Size Medium
Foundation Chain X 2 = 75 X 2 = 150
150 X 2/3 = approximately 100 single crochet stitches around.
Rounds 2-5: CH1, SC in same stitch; SC in each sc; join to first sc of the round with slip stitch.
Fasten off after round 5.
Weave in all loose ends and enjoy your super cool crochet tank top!

Hi Michele,
Great question! The gauge for this top is 21.5 sts and 14 rows = 4 inches.
