The deep freeze has hit. It’s been so cold that I couldn’t even pose for outdoor photos without freezing to death! Okay maybe I’m being a bit dramatic, but love it or hate it… its officially winter up here in Canada. Thankfully I have a cozy new scarf to keep me warm until spring! And of course, I’m sharing the pattern with you all today in case you are facing a similar fate. This free crochet winter scarf pattern combines simple cables and shells to create a cozy scarf to keep you warm on the chilliest of winter days! I had so much fun crocheting it, and I know you will too.

The scarf in the photos was made with Plymouth Yarn’s Encore Worsted Weight Yarn in White. I love this yarn because it’s mostly acrylic, which makes it machine washable, but it also contains 25% wool to provide added warmth. I’ve listed some alternative options below that would make great substitutes:
- Stylecraft Special Aran Yarn
- Lion Brand Wool-Ease aran weight yarn
- Knit Picks Brava Tweed Worsted Weight Yarn
- Knit Picks Simply Alpaca Aran Yarn
- Knit Picks High Desert Worsted Weight Yarn
- Paintbox Yarns Simply Aran Yarn
Pay it Forward!
I hope you enjoy this pattern! Please feel free to share the link to this page on your social media or Pinterest account.
I truly appreciate all of you who get the word out about this site and my patterns!

Hi–beautiful scarf. Suggestion: I am a visual learner meaning if I can see a picture or a TUTORIAL of how to do a stitch, I am very happy. Would you consider including a tutorial?
