A Crochet Tote Bag Made with Granny Squares

I’ve got a cool new project to share with you today -a free crochet tote bag pattern! This is the first crochet bag pattern that I’m sharing on Leelee Knits. I’ve been planning to share a bag pattern for a while now, but I wanted it to be just right. After a lot of experimenting and tweaking, I’m finally happy with this design. I designed this granny square tote bag to be perfect for everything from grocery runs to beach trips. It’s super lightweight and soft, yet also incredibly sturdy due to the dense stitch design of the squares.

I actually came up with the squares all by myself! I found a similar square pattern that used double crochet stitches, but I felt it wouldn’t be solid enough for the bag I had in mind. So, I switched to single crochets and worked them in the back loop to give the design a wicker-like feel.

Once all 15 squares have been crocheted, assemble the squares as indicated in the Construction/Notes section above and then continue to add the border and strap (below).

Border and Strap:

Follow the steps below to add the strap and border or watch the video tutorial at time 23:20.

  1. Flip bag inside out and lay flat.
