I am so excited to share my favourite crochet washcloth pattern with you all, because I just know you will fall in love with it too! If you are new to crochet or looking for something simple and quick, these washcloths will make your day. The pattern I came up with is really easy and creates a scrunchy fabric that is just perfect for cleaning and looks absolutely gorgeous in your home or as a gift.
Ever since I started making my own washcloths, my kids refuse to go back to store bought washcloths for bath time. They insist that these are more absorbent and I think they also like that they were hand made with love by their mama just for them!
The key to creating these luxurious washcloths is the yarn. My absolute favourite cotton yarn is Knit Picks Dishie Yarn. The colours are so lovely and the quality is incredible for the price.
I have written out and posted the free pattern for this wash cloth below on this page. You can also purchase the ad free instant download PDF file for easy printing and reading by clicking on the button below or through Ravelry.

My Favourite Crochet Washcloth – Pattern
What you will need
Here is what you will need to make this washcloth:
- A size H-8 (5 mm) Crochet Hook.
- 70 yards of Knit Picks Dishie Yarn.
- Scissors.
Measurements
Each washcloth measures 7″ X 7″.
Pattern
Chain 25 (or a multiple of 2 + 1).
Row 1: SC in 2nd chain from hook and in each remaining chain. CH1 and turn.
Row 2: *Skip next sc, 2SC in next sc; repeat from * to end of row. CH1 and turn.
Repeat row 2 until your work measures just under 7 inches (should look square) and continue on to border.
Border
Work around the border of the cloth evenly in single crochet. Make sure that you do 3 SC in each corner of the border. I found an excellent article explaining how to work a single crochet border in detail. When you have completed one round, join to first SC with a slip stitch. Fasten off and weave in the ends!
I hope you enjoyed this pattern, and if so please share on social media so that others can try it out as well!

Thank you for sharing your pattern. Looks fantastic. Will give it a go for sure.
Awesome pattern! It is so simple and works up easy and fast, almost done with my first one!
Thank you for sharing the pattern!
You are so welcome!! All the best 🙂
If I want to make this washcloth a bit larger I am not sure what it means when you say:
Chain 25 (or a multiple of 2 + 1). What is a multiple of 2 + 1?? I have seen this used in other patterns and it just stumps me as to how to increase the pattern? Thank you for sharing this pattern and any help you can give me!
Hi Darlene, All that means is that it has to be an odd number of stitches that is greater than two 🙂
I am not the author, but I’m fairly certain it means any multiple of 2 (ie: 2, 4, 6, 12, 18, etc…) plus 1. So 25 = 24 + 1 and 24 is a multiple of 2. You could do 12 + 1 or 14+1 or 18+1
That’s whats worked for me with other patterns!
cheers (:
Take the pattern for instance. It says to chain 25. That is a multiple of 2+1. 12 sets of 2 stitches plus 1 equals 25. If you want to make it larger you will make multiples of 2 and then add 1. For instance you could start with a chain 37. That would be 18 sets (multiples) of 2 +1. 18×2=36+1=37
Easy, fun pattern! Thank you,
thanks for this pattern
LeeLee-Do you have the patterns for the anchor, and such? My sister likes the beach decorations and these would be great for Christmas. thanks. Wendy
Hi Wendy, yes they are posted on the page.
Love this simple pattern. It is the perfect size for washing my face, and to give as a gift.
I can’t wait to try this pattern, but since you bragged about the Knit Picks yarn, I decided to go ahead and give it a try using your link. Thanks for the pattern!
You’re so welcome! Enjoy!
Just working up this washcloth. Lovely pattern and creates a nice texture. May try this for a baby blanket also. Thank you:)
A rookie and it looks easy to make. I would like to know if I make those (and anything from your site) will I be able to sell them?
Hi Danielle, you can definitely sell anything you make from my patterns. I just ask that you use your own photos 🙂
Where do you get the yarn?
Hi Nancy, the materials are listed on the page above the pattern instructions including a link to the yarn that I used.
I am having trouble seeing the first sc to start the row. Is it the sc right after the stitch with the turning chain or the next one? My number of stitches keeps getting off. Thank you.
Hi Diane, Skip the first sc after the turning chain and then work the 2sc into the next one.
Love, love, love this pattern. I think it would also make a beautiful baby blanket, and warm.
What is the name of this stitch? I am a huge fan of Dishie yarn too!!
Hi Kathy, I’m sorry but I don’t know the name of the stitch.
Thank you for sharing this wonderful pattern. This cloth can be used with any pattern on towels.
You’re most welcome Joan!
