I’m so excited to share my latest crochet blanket pattern with you! I know a lot of you are newer to crochet, and you’ve told me you love patterns that are simple, relaxing, and great for building confidence. So I designed this throw with that in mind. It uses the crochet moss stitch—also called the linen or woven stitch—which is one of my go-to beginner stitches. It’s made with just single crochets and chains, but the finished fabric looks modern, textured, and way more impressive than the effort it takes (my favorite kind of project!).
In this post, I’ll share the full written pattern, go over the yarn and tools you’ll need, and include a step-by-step video tutorial to walk you through the stitch if you’re more of a visual learner. So if you’re looking for an easy, cozy crochet project to work on, you’re in the right place!

How to Crochet the Moss Stitch:
The moss stitch is a simple and relaxing stitch. It creates a beautiful, woven texture using just single crochets and chains. It’s perfect for beginners, but still fun for more experienced crocheters who want a relaxing, no stress stitch to work with. The best part is that it lays flat and looks great on both sides, making it ideal for blankets and other home décor like pillows and dish towels.
Crochet Moss Stitch Video Tutorial:
If you’re new to crocheting the moss stitch or want to see it in action, I’ve included a step-by-step video tutorial below. I’ve also shared it to the Leelee Knits YouTube Channel, where I post all of my stitch tutorials (subscribe to get notified every time I post a new tutorial!). I promise that once you watch this video, you will be super excited to get started!
Yarn Choice:
This blanket requires worsted weigh yarn of your choice. The yarn that I chose to work with is my favourite low cost acrylic worsted weight yarn, Brava Worsted by We Crochet / Knit Picks. I went with a classic combo of white and a dark grey (Cobblestone Heather), but feel free to be creative and make it your own! Some suggestions:
- Cream with a soft blush pink for a warmer, more romantic vibe.
- Navy and mustard for a bold modern twist.
- Two neutral shades of beige or taupe for a calming, minimalist look.
- Oatmeal and forest green for a cozy, nature-inspired feel.
- Charcoal and deep burgundy for a rich, moody palette.
- Sky blue and pale yellow for a fresh, cheerful look.
Just pick a combo that feels like home to you!

I love your patterns.
Thank you

Thank you Dawn, that means so much to me to hear!
Hello! This is beautiful! I have just begun. I’m confused Toby the row numbering. The pattern above goes through 4 then returns to row 3, 4 and then 5. What am I not understanding? Thank you so much!
Hi Cheryl, I’m sorry that was my mistake – somehow rows 3 and 4 were entered twice on the page! I’ve updated the pattern to fix it. Thank you for letting me know!
if i want it longer than 54 would i just add another set of wht/gry
Hi Bronwyn, Yes, that would be a great way to make it bigger. Or you could even add more white rows in between if you only want to make it slightly longer.
Hi! Thank you for introducing this beautiful blanket. Can you tell me if you decided to use 100% cotton or acrylic?
You’re welcome Ann! I used an acrylic yarn for this blanket but it would be perfect in a worsted weight cotton as well. I find cotton can work up smaller, so you may want to add a few more chains to make sure the blanket is wide enough if you go that route.
This is beautiful! I’m making one in alpaca for a friend’s baby. Did you do a border or anything to clean up the sides? If you didn’t, do you have one you’d recommend?
Hi Deanna, I did not make a border for my blanket, but I think a simple single crochet or ribbed border would look lovely!
