The summer of baby blankets continues with another beginner-friendly pattern that I had so much fun designing for you guys! Inspired by the colours of dawn, the Morning Sky striped baby blanket knitting pattern is both easy and fun! If you’re a new knitter and want to expand your skills beyond knits and purls, then you will love this pattern, which incorporates the simple slip stitch to create a fun woven texture.

Yarn Choice

I came up with the colour scheme one morning when I woke up before my family and was awestruck by the colours as the sun rose over the horizon. I thought it would be fun to work the pinks and yellows into a baby blanket and ordered my favourite baby blanket yarn, Knit Picks Brava Worsted in the colours Cotton Candy, White, and Canary. When the yarn arrived, I was thrilled that the colours were exactly what I had in mind. Brava is my favourite yarn for baby blankets because it is machine washable and affordable, yet so soft to the touch. I highly recommend that you use the same yarn for your own blanket, but if you aren’t able to get Knit Picks yarn in your country, look for an acrylic worsted weight yarn in similar colours so that the blanket can be washed easily.

    1. Thanks Victoria! Yes, you can most definitely use straight needles instead of circular (as long as they are long enough to hold all of the stitches).

  3. Hi, love the pattern.

Just one question, do you slip your stitch purlwise with the yarn in the front or back? Thank you
