Modern Crochet Blanket Pattern

I have a cozy, yet modern crochet blanket pattern to share with you all today! This blanket looks almost like it was knit, but its entirely crocheted with single and double crochet stitches.
I’ve been hearing from my social media followers that they want to see more crochet blanket patterns, and this makes me so happy! While I love to design all kinds of crochet items, blankets are by far my favourite for so many reasons. First of all, they don’t require a lot of the concentration that comes with shaping garments and accessories. Plus, I love to have cozy blankets and throws all over the house because of the warm vibe they add to each room – not to mention my kitties love a good blanket to nap on. So coming up with new designs means I get to add to my own collection as well!

The Tranquility Throw Crochet Pattern
I named this blanket the Tranquility Throw mostly because of the soothing yarn color it’s crocheted with. The color is called Sage and the yarn line is We Crochet’s Mighty Stitch worsted weight yarn. It is a gorgeous soft green with blue undertones, that reminds me of being out in the woods on a warm summer day.
While Mighty Stitch is listed as worsted weight, I would say that it’s more in between dk and worsted weight in thickness. So, if you’re not able to get your hands on Mighty Stitch, then I recommend choosing a worsted weight yarn that isn’t too thick or a even thicker dk weight yarn. Just be sure to make a swatch and check the gauge and drape before you start.
Another reason I found this name fitting is that I felt very calm while crocheting the blanket. The pattern has a simple two-row repeat, which makes it incredibly relaxing to work on. And while I was of course excited to share the pattern with you, I was also sad when this project came to an end, because I truly enjoyed the process of crocheting this blanket.
Learn It Fast: Video & Photos
As I mentioned earlier, this modern crochet blanket pattern requires only single and double crochet stitches. However, they are worked into different parts of the stitch in the row below (the back loop and the third loop), which may be new for some of you. But don’t worry! I have included photos with the pattern below, as well as a video tutorial to help you out.
The video tutorial is shared on this page – just scroll down to the pattern. You can also watch it on the Leelee Knits YouTube Channel at the following link: Modern Crochet Blanket Stitch Tutorial.

Notes
Instead of using a turning chain to begin row 2 of this pattern, the Chainless Starting Double Crochet (Csdc) stitch is used instead. The Csdc is made as follows:
Step 1: Pull up a loop on your hook to the height of a double crochet and hold it in place with your index finger.

Step 2: Continue to hold the loop in place and twist the hook around the loop to make a second loop.

Step 3.a: Yarn over and pull through the first loop on the hook that you made in step 2.

Step 3.b: You will now have 2 loops remaining on the hook.

Step 4: Finally, yarn over again and pull through the remaining two loops on the hook.

That’s it! The CSDC is complete. It should look like this.

Chain 226.
Note: The length of the foundation chain will determine the length of the blanket. To change the blanket length, multiply the desired length in inches by 4.25 and then add 1 for the turning chain. For example, if you want the blanket to be 60″ long, chain 256 (60 X 4.25 + 1).
Row 1 (Front Side): SC into second ch from hook and in each remaining ch; turn.
Row 2 (Back Side): CSDC and skip the first sc; DC in third loop of each remaining sc; turn.

Row 3: CH1 (does not count as a stitch), SCBL in each dc to end of row; turn.

Repeat rows 2 and 3 until blanket measures 37″ and then continue to Finishing.

Finishing
Fasten off, weave in all loose ends and then attach tassels around the first and last stitch of each double crochet row.
Adding Tassels:
Step 1: Cut yarn into 12 inch strands. You will need 4 strands for each double crochet row (2 on each side).
Step 2: Take 2 strands and fold them in half and pull through the space between the two end stitches of the double crochet row to make a loop.
Step 3: Grab the ends with your hook and bring them through the loop. Finally, pull tight to secure the knot.

Wet or steam block the blanket to relax the fibres of the yarn and even out the stitches, and enjoy your new crochet blanket!
