I have another scarf pattern for you guys! This time, I thought I’d play around with knitting on the bias. If you haven’t heard of knitting on the bias, its just a fancy way of saying knitting a diagonal shape. This is done by increasing and decreasing the same number of stitches in a row so that the total stitch count remains the same, while allowing you to shape the ends of the fabric.

Knitting on the bias is also a great way for beginner knitters to practice their increases and decreases. So if you consider yourself and advanced beginner, looking for a new challenge, then you will love this pattern!

Materials:

Knit Picks Banner

Size:

80“long (side to side) X 10.5“wide (top to bottom).

Gauge:

16 stitches, 18 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch.

Abbreviations:

K: Knit.
P: Purl.
KFB: Knit in the front and back of the stitch (increase).
PM: Place stitch marker.

Notes:

This scarf is knit on the bias (diagonally) by making decreases at the beginning, and increases at the end of every other row.  By increasing and decreasing the same number of stitches, the total stitch count stays the same throughout, but shapes the scarf in a diagonal form.

Pattern:

Cast on 180 stitches (long tail cast on).

Row 1 (back side): Knit all stitches.

Row 2: K2, K2Tog, K2Tog, Knit to last 4 stitches, KFB, KFB, K2.

Row 3: Knit all stitches.

Row 4: K2, K2Tog, K2Tog, Knit to last 4 stitches, KFB, KFB, K2.

Row 5: K4, P to last 4 stitches, K4.

Row 6: K2, K2Tog, K2Tog, Knit to last 4 stitches, KFB, KFB, K2.

Row 7-12: Repeat rows 5 and 6 three more times.

Row 13-16: Repeat rows 1 to 4.

Row 17-20: Repeat rows 5 and 6 twice.

Row 21-24: Repeat rows 1 to 4.

Row 25-30: Repeat rows 5 and 6 three times.

Row 31-34: Repeat rows 1 to 4.

Row 35-40: Repeat rows 5 and 6 three times.

Row 41-44: Repeat rows 1 to 4.

Row 45-48: Repeat rows 5 and 6 twice.

Row 49-52: Repeat rows 1 to 4.

Row 53-60: Repeat rows 5 and 6 four times.

Row 61-64: Repeat rows 1 to 4.

Cast off, weave in loose ends, and wet or steam block so that scarf lays flat.
