Easy Crochet Top Pattern

Crochet Crop Top Pattern

As you may have noticed, crochet tops are the trend right now, which is amazing news for us crocheters! If you love making your own clothing -or even just want to give it a try, then I think you’ll love this crochet crop top pattern that I designed to be easy, flattering, and comfortable.

The v-neck design is meant to be relaxed and loose, and the pattern is beginner-friendly with a full video tutorial to walk you through making your very own top! And if you’re not into the whole crop top thing, no problem. Just add more rows to the midriff section to make it longer. You’ll still have a great DIY summer top!

Design and Construction:

As I’d mentioned above, I really wanted to design a top that is easy for all skill levels. If you are fairly new to crochet, you’ll be happy to know that this is definitely a project you can handle. I have made a video tutorial to walk you through the making of this top, which you can find on the Leelee Knits YouTube channel, as well as below on this page with the pattern.

In addition to being easy to make, this loose fitting top is designed to be flattering to most body types. The extra roomy front and back panels are identical and joined together at the shoulder and side seams. Each panel is constructed from the bottom up, so that you can get the hang of working with the stitch pattern before shaping the underarm and neckline.

Materials:

This crochet crop top pattern requires the following supplies:

Yarn Choice:

Once again, I have chosen to use Knit Picks CotLin DK weight yarn. This yarn is perfect for summer garments in my opinion. I love the soft, natural texture of CotLin, and I honestly haven’t found a cotton yarn that can compare as far as the colour palette goes.

Sizes:

This crop top can be made in the following sizes:  XS(S,M,L,XL).

Note that the pattern will present instructions for the various sizes in this format. For example, Chain 66(70,74,78,82) is read as chain 66 for size XS, Chain 70 for size S, chain 74 for size M…

Sizes are made to fit the following bust circumferences: 32”(34”,36”,38”40”).

Gauge:

18 stitches X 12 rows = 4” in pattern stitch.

Special Stitches & Abbreviations:

CH: Chain.

SC: Single Crochet.

SS: Slip Stitch.

HDC: Half Double Crochet.

Example of completed panel for size Small.

Assembly:

Lay one panel on top of the other, with the right sides together.  This stitch is the same on both sides, but if you’ve weaved in your ends on one side, then that would be your wrong side.

Join the panels together at the shoulder and side seams, using a whip stitch.

Trim:

With the top inside out, join yarn at centre back (the front and back are the same, so you can just decide which side is the back) of the bottom into foundation chain. CH1.

Round 1: SC in same ch as where you joined the yarn, and in each ch all the way around; join to first sc with SS; CH2. Total SC: 128(136,144,152,160).

Round 2: HDC in same sc, and in each sc all the way around; join to first hdc with SS.  Fasten off.

Weave in all loose ends and enjoy your crop top!

  1. Hi! I’ve started to crochet this lovely top, but I’ve a question. In the shaping part of the right shoulder strap the pattern says CH1 and turn, but other times it says CH2 (rows 10, 12, 14, 16-23), and in the left shoulder strap it always says CH2 and turn. In the video it also says CH1 and turn. Which is correct, CH1 or CH2?
    Thanks!

    1. Hi again. I’ve realized that both are correct. You use CH1 before rows that start with SS and CH2 before those that begin with HDC. However, I have another question. Do you recommend blocking the pieces before or after sewing them together?
      Thanks again!

      1. Hi Claudia, you could block before or after sewing the pieces together. I prefer to block first but its up to you!

  2. Hi,
I have a question. Should I be crocheting into both loops? It’s hard to tell from the video
