Its not quite autumn yet, but I’ve been in fall mode for at least a month now! The kids are back in school, and my favourite time of the year is almost here! I can’t wait to share all of the designs that I’ve been dreaming up over the last few weeks with you guys, beginning with this light weight lace knit cowl pattern.
Knitting lace can seem scary at first, but most lace patterns look a lot more complicated than they really are. After a few rows of repeats, you’ll find that lace knitting is actually quite fun and rewarding. If you’re new to lace, and feeling a little intimidated, then I think this is the perfect pattern to start with and help you build your confidence in your lace knitting abilities. The entire project takes only one skein of worsted weight yarn too, so its a great stash buster!
Pattern Design:
I have designed a few cowl patterns over the years, but this is my first cowl pattern that incorporates lace. I’ve avoided lace for cowls in the past because I personally love a warm cowl, and didn’t want to take away from the warmth with little holes all over the place! It was important to me when designing this cowl to not overdo the openwork. This cowl, I think, has just the right amount of lace – with two fish tail lace panels, separated by stockinette, and a line of garter stitch down the centre and along the borders to add some structure.
