Striped Crochet Blanket Pattern for Beginners

Classic Crochet Baby Blanket Pattern

Wow, I can’t believe the summer is already halfway through! I’ve been a bit slow to share my latest pattern with the kids home from school and a week-long vacation to Kelowna. Now that we are home and back into our routine, I have finally been able to write up the pattern for the Candy Stripes Baby Blanket. This is a super fun striped blanket pattern that is great for beginner crocheters.

Striped Crochet Blanket Patterns: Beginner Friendly, and Versatile!

I’ve always believed that stripes are a fantastic way to breathe life into a simple crocheted blanket. They’re just so welcoming to beginners and a simply way to infuse timeless, sophisticated charm. You see, the beauty of incorporating stripes into your crochet project is how straightforward it is. It’s like, even if you’re just starting out, you can create something truly beautiful without having to navigate through complicated patterns.

They are also super versatile. Stripes are like this wonderful canvas that lets you express the vibe of the room or nursery. Whether you’re aiming for something cozy and warm or bright and energetic, you can tailor your blanket to embody the exact feel of the space. It’s kind of magical, don’t you think? Just a few changes in colour, and you’ve got something that feels entirely new and personal.

I wrote this blanket pattern in the size of a typical baby blanket. If you’d like to make the blanket as a full sized throw, I’ve also included the foundation chain multiples as well so that you can make it as wide as you like.

Yarn Choice for the Candy Stripes Baby Blanket:

For this blanket, I chose to work with Knit Picks Brava Worsted Weight Yarn in White, Cotton Candy, and Blush. I love Brava for baby blankets because it is washable and inexpensive, yet incredibly soft and cuddly. It’s also an acrylic yarn, which makes it great for allergy sufferers. The pink colours that I made my blanket with are on the feminine side – if you’re making your blanket for a baby boy or going for a more gender-neutral look, try swapping out the pinks for shades of blue (Clarity and Denim), yellow (Custard and Canary), green (Alfalfa and Peapod), or purple (Seraphim and Freesia).

  1. I like your baby crochet blankets. I have crocheted a blanket for each of my children and I try to make each a different pattern and color. My m-i-l also makes a blanket for each of her grandchildren and I often share my patterns with her. I’m always on the lookout for simple fast working up ones for her and either very unique or more complex ones for me. So, I’ve seen a lot of different patterns. I like what I’ve seen of yours. Thank you!
